A man has been found dead in woodland near Newton Ferrers.

Police say that a body was discovered close to the village on Sunday evening.

Villagers reported a large police presence in the area over the weekend.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.

His next of kin have been informed.

A force spokesperson said: “Police were called at around 7.45pm on Sunday, February 16, to woods near Newton Ferrers following a concern for welfare call.

“A man was subsequently found dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.

“Police are not treating the death as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.”
