A MAN has been treated in hospital after being glassed in the head during a mass brawl in an Ivybridge pub at the weekend.

Police were called to the Sportsmans Inn in Exeter Road after 8.30pm on Saturday night to reports of a large scale disorder.

The pub was playing host to its annual St George’s Day themed celebration, and police said many in attendance were dressed in medieval costumes including Richard the Lionheart, crusaders and wenches.

A 15-man brawl broke out in the pub, and a 43-year-old man from Ivybridge was glassed, requiring treatment at Derriford Hospital.

Police officers investigating the assault have arrested a 27-year-old Plymouth man on suspicion of wounding. He was released on police bail pending further enquiries until August 18.

Police believe there would have been a number of witnesses to the assault, and would like to hear from anyone who was in the pub at the time of the incident.
