A man has been taken to Derriford Hospital in a critical condition after being assaulted outside a pub.

The incident occurred on Saturday, December 16, after two men were ejected from The Duke of Cornwall Inn, Ivybridge.

The police statement said: "This was an assault that happened between 11.30pm and 11.45pm on Saturday.

"Two men were ejected from the pub following an altercation between them. One man then punched the other in the face, causing him to fall to the ground and hit his head.

"The victim, in his 40s and from Ivybridge, sustained a serious head injury and was taken to Derriford Hospital in a critical condition.

"A 42-year-old man from Ivybridge was arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm and has been released under investigation pending further enquiries."
