Twenty-five new benches have been installed across Kingsbridge, Hope Cove and other South Hams communities as part of a council improvement programme.

The work follows recent bench replacements in Totnes, Salcombe and Ivybridge, which saw 53 old benches replaced..

South Hams District Council says the wider programme also includes refurbishing public toilets, replacing litter bins and carrying out improvements to car parks.

Cllr Victor Abbott, Executive Member for Community Services, Operations and Leisure, said the project was a “wide-reaching attempt to modernise some of our local assets”.

“This work is all part of our commitment to support our communities across the district in every way we can,” he added.

South Hams District Council also runs a Memorial Bench Scheme, where residents can apply to purchase and place benches in certain locations on the council’s land.
