A SUMMER fair in aid of Yealmpton Primary School has brought together the village in a great show of community spirit.
The event was organised by PTA group the Friends of Yealmpton Village School, to raise money to improve the primary for the benefit of pupils.
It featured a licensed bar, a barbecue, vintage high teas, a bouncy castle, community stalls, a tombola, pony rides, a raffle, live music and more.
The fair was also the occasion for the judging of the popular scarecrow competition, back for a second year. Many residents of Yealmpton and the surrounding areas went to great efforts to create the eye catching dummies, lots of which have been displayed outside houses and shops.
First place was Archie Piper with his Sir Alan Sugar scarecrow, second were Amelia and James Bateson with the ’Singing Mermaid’, and third were Bella and Adalena with their policeman.
The friends involved many other organisations in the event, including the WI, the preschool, Yealmpton Community Association, the Brownies, the Dementia Friendly group, and Yealmpton and Brixton Caring. They also had help from YOYO - the Youth of Yealmpton Organisation, the methodist church, and The Volunteer Inn.
Kerry Thorne from the friends said: ’The fair was a great success, we were so pleased with the turnout and support that we received. It was great to see lots of people having fun, and a real feeling of community spirit.
’The money raised will go towards further enhancing the childrens education, and we are very grateful to all the businesses and individuals that kindly donated raffle prizes and gave their time to help make a memorable day.’
