THE friends of a local primary school have been putting the finishing touches to plans for a ’Mini Strictly Come Dancing’ event.

The event based on the hit TV programme will involve each class at The Erme Primary School in Ivybridge dancing it out to be crowned winners of a glitterball trophy.

The contest will take place at Ivybridge Community College in its 250-seater performance space, which will be transformed into a ball room by college students working towards Duke of Edinburgh awards.

Pupils efforts will be judged by a panel of special guest judges.

The glitzy event is being organised by the Friends of The Erme Primary school. Chairman Kay Winstone said the plan was for each class to dance a routine, and then after a refreshment break and raffle judges would name the winners.

Kay added the Friends already had some raffle prizes including signed Strictly memorabilia.

She continued: ’All monies raised from our refreshments, raffle and ticket sales will be going towards upgrading Victoria Public Play Park for the benefit of the entire community.

’We wish upgrade to Victroria Public Play Park in Ivybridge to provide new hard and safety surfaces covering 240sq meters, play markings, robust, accessible and stimulating play equipment, and goals for football, netball and basketball.

’The funding will provide the hard surfacing that will enable all children in the community to play at all times of the year, in most weather conditions, allowing for organised and casual play.’

The Mini Strictly event will take place on Wednesday, February 22 Feb, from 4pm to 5.45pm.
