Ray Lancaster, chairman, Kingsbridge History Society, writes:

My thanks to J Allan for the letter, Gazette, February 3, pointing out the error for our attention regarding Nancy Astor’s maiden name – she was indeed a Langhorne, not a Mitford. Both American, but alas no connection.

Luckily our society is blessed with many knowledgeable historians who paid more attention on the tour than the report writer, who was duly reminded of the gaffe.

I hope J Allan enjoyed the house tour organised by the society as much as everyone else did. My apologies to all the misinformed readers.
