I spent a really enjoyable day at the Kingsbridge Show on Saturday.

It was wonderful to be able to get so near the animals and in some cases touch them, to be able to see the judges working and the children proudly ­presenting their animals – and not forgetting the wonderful fruit and vegetables on show.

However, to get to the show we had to drive between fields of solar panels, and I wonder if there should now be a cup for ‘best in show solar panel’, or the most destroyed view.

Perhaps the management for the next show will consider this before all the fields disappear.

I suppose this is known as ‘modernising’ in Government-speak, or even ‘progress’.
