A children’s sports club in Plymstock has received £1,000 from the housebuilder behind the Saltram Meadows development.

Persimmon Homes Cornwall & West Devon presented the donation to PEM Disability Children’s Club at the group’s annual barbecue and awards ceremony at Elburton Villa FC.

The volunteer-run club was founded by Royal Navy veterans Lee Ellis and Luke Monnington and provides free activities for children with disabilities.

PEM holds sessions twice a month, giving children the opportunity to take part in a range of sports and other activities in a safe environment.

The club also organises activities including litter picks, bouncy castle days and visits to soft play centres, swimming pools and adventure parks.

The latest donation is the second time Persimmon has supported the club through its Community Champions scheme.

Persimmon gives around £700,000 to good causes and community organisations across Britain each year through the scheme. Other recent Plymouth recipients have included Plymouth Hospitals Charity, the Argyle Community Foundation, Plymouth Night Patrol and St Luke’s Hospice.

Lisa Morrish, Persimmon Homes Cornwall & West Devon’s head of customer care, presented the cheque at the event.

She said PEM was “an amazing charity” which gave children the opportunity to pursue their love of sport and “realise their potential”.

“Seeing the smiles, determination, and talent on display today was inspirational,” she said.

“It was lovely seeing the children collect their well-deserved trophies and medals.”

PEM co-founder Lee Ellis said the club was “absolutely delighted and incredibly grateful” for the donation.

He said Persimmon was the club’s largest contributor to date and that the money would have a “tremendous impact” on children and families using its services.

“Many of our children live in Persimmon-built communities, making this partnership even more special,” he said.

The club provides its services free of charge and relies on donations from local businesses and community organisations.
