A SHORT film shot on the Flete Estate near Holbeton in June, has already been watched by nearly a quarter of a million people in 100 countries.

The film stars 14-year-old Raffey Cassidy, last seen dying in George Clooney’s arms in the Disney blockbuster Tomorrowland.

Raffey stars in Miranda’s Letter, a short film commissioned by the British Council for their ‘Shakespeare Lives’ season, which runs throughout 2016 in celebration of the 400th anniversary of the Bard’s death.

Inspired by The Tempest, Miranda’s Letter addresses the question of the missing mother in Shakespeare’s play. Prospero and Miranda live together on a deserted island but what became of Miranda’s mother?

The short film was filmed on location at Mothecombe Beach and Whitemoor Farm on the Flete Estate, and included a number of locals working in the crew.

Franke Pollak, an artist from South Brent worked as part of the the art department; cameraman Danny Cooke is from Paignton, makeup artist Eve Wignall is from Newton Abbott and sound technician Tim Stephens is from Yelverton.

Kate Isherwood, who worked in the art department and took still photographs, lives in Landscove near Brixham, and teaches photography in Plymouth.

And the Director, Teresa Griffiths was born and raised in Dartington, near Totnes.

There were many other locals involved in all aspects of the production.

The film also features Frankie Fox, who recently starred in the hit play Boy at London’s Almeida Theatre; Westcountry resident, international opera star and movie actor William Schimmel and Nic Knowland, the legendary cinematographer behind John Lennon’s Imagine.

The voice of the mother is played by acclaimed actress Anne-Marie Duff.
