TWO students from Ivybridge Community College have made it into the grand final of a spelling competition with a difference.

Year 7's Stephanie Cade and Daniel Morton are among the 108 students from around the country who will take part in the final of the Routes into Languages National Spelling Bee.

Stephanie and Daniel have 200 words to memorise in their chosen languages – Spanish and French respectively – and will have to translate and spell as many words correctly as possible in 60 seconds.

More than 74,000 schoolchildren entered the competition from around 590 schools. It is culminating in the final at Anglia Ruskin University's Cambridge campus on July 3.

Sarah Schechter, project manager for Routes into Languages East at Anglia Ruskin University, said: 'We're looking forward to a keenly contested final, and to those talented pupils preparing to take part, we say bonne chance.'
