It’s non-stop September for South Brent Judo Club judoka. Racking up the miles the players have trained and fought with passion.
On September 20 two plucky players competed at the Devizes Open, remarkably both won gold.
Lewis Widdicombe (73kg+) from Ivybridge Community College dominated his group to win. Scarlett Hodge (U48kg) from Exeter College, showed great skill and resilience and won in a difficult category.
On Saturday, September 19, 16 South Brent Judo players joined judoka across Devon for a challenging session hosted by Kingsley Judo Club, Bideford.
The judoka ranged from eight to 19 years old. The players were put through their paces by the Devon coaches: Steve Coles, Pete Whitfield and Simon Ward (Western Area Coach).
Three hour-long sessions of conditioning, standing judo and groundwork sharpened the players’ skills.
Finally, Tom Ingram (U66kg) from KEVICC made the long journey to compete in the North of England cadet ranking event in Bradford.
Tom fought brilliantly and was delighted to beat the cadet number three on route to the final.
Narrowly losing in the final, Tom won a well-deserved silver and some all-important ranking points.
