BEESANDS Rovers wait for their first point of the new SDFL season continues following a third straight loss, reports Alastair Muirden.

Their misery was further compounded by Bovey Tracey 2nd at the Western Counties Roofing Ground, Alfie Prowse and Brad Williams notching for the Bees in a 3-2 defeat.

Elsewhere in that division, Buckland Athletic 2nd XI were victorious once more, cruising to a 6-2 success over Babbacombe Corries.

Paignton Villa and Watcombe Wanderers have the same record as Bovey, Villa beating Watcombe 3-2 on the road and edging ahead of them in the standings as a result.

The leaders though are Mount Gould who won by a familiar scoreline, 3-2, to continue their 100% start.

Meanwhile, in the top-flight, leaders Lakeside Athletic were taken to the wire by Newton Abbot Spurs 2nds but a 3–2 victory keeps them on maximum points

Right behind them are Ilsington Villa thanks to a 2-nil win over Pymouth True Blues, Dan Langford and Jamie Soper with the goals for the moorland side.

Paignton Saints moved into third spot with an eyebrow raising 3–1 win at Newton Abbot 66, Billy Reay, Jo Perry and Connor Stewart getting the goals for Saints.

The top three plus East Allington Utd are the only unbeaten teams left in the Premier Division after two weeks of league action. Kingsteignton Athletic make up the top five with a hard fought 2–1 win over Elburton Villa, Mark Voisey coming out of retirement to strike twice.

In Division Two, Galmpton Utd continued their 100% start to the season with a comprehensive 5–1 win, Cole Feasby and Dan Tresize got two goals each and there was a single for Max Prestwood.

Kingskerswell make up the top three with a 5–2 win over Paignton Villa 2nds at the Kerswell Bowl- Oli Critchlow kept the match ball having scored four goals.

Liverton United played and won their first game of the campaign, beating Newton Spurs 3rds by three goals to nil.

East Allington United 2nds were also playing their opening game having avoided needing to withdraw the team and a 2–2 draw versus a decent Tavistock team should give the Pirates some confidence moving forward.

Paignton Saints 2nds got their season up and running with their first points, a 6–3 win over a visiting Ivybridge Town side is a good result in anybody’s book. Sam Winstanley, Adam Blackburn, Dan Beech each scored one but the Saints hero was Harvey Veysey who hit a hat-trick.

In Division Three, Ipplepen Athletic remain the leaders thanks to a 4–1 victory over Liverton Utd 2nds and Kingsteignton Athletic 2nds had the same scoreline as their senior team in a 2–1 win over Buckfastleigh Rangers. Nathen De’Ath scored both goals and the result keeps the Rams on two from two and in second place.

Newton Rovers moved up five places with a close 3–2 win at Stoke Gabriel TP who were also playing their first game under new management. Pre-season favourites Horrabridge Rangers clicked into gear with a 3–1 victory over Chudleigh Athletic 2nds to record their first three points in the SDFL.

Division Four is going to be a tight competition as after only two games, only two teams have no points.

Buckland Athletic 3rds are one of four teams on six points and they lead on goal difference. This week they put in a 4–2 win at Waldon Athletic having been level at the break.

Lakeside Athletic 2nds have played three games but their 10–1 win at Paignton Villa 3rds keeps them in second spot.

Ilsington Villa 2nds got their second win of the season thanks to a 3–1 win at Brixham Town 2nds to join the top four. David Hatch rolled back the years with two goals and Ernie Scott added a single for Villa.

In the only other game played in this division, Windmill and Bere Alston shared the points in an entertaining 2–2 draw.

Lastly, to Division Five, where Tamerton Foliot lead the way with three wins from three. This week’s 9-nil win at Bakers Park over Newton Rovers 2nds certainly helped their goal difference which stands at +15.

Paignton Saints 3rds eased into second place with a 2-nil win over Newton Albion which was the first defeat that Albion have had to endure.

Tavistock 3rds enjoyed their second win in three outings; a close 3–2 win against Broadhempston Utd puts them into third place with goals from Ben Backway, Paul Cowling and Ryan Smale.

Now, to a result that you don’t often see in the SDFL as WBB v Waldon Athletic 2nds shared the spoils in a goalless draw. WBB are on four points to date whilst Waldon have drawn all three outings thus far.

Looking ahead to the coming weekend and the big game in the Premier Division comes at Osborne Park with Newton 66 hosting Lakeside Athletic. Lakeside may have won the league last year but ’66 were victorious in this fixture and will be hoping for a repeat.

In Division One, you can take your pick from Bovey vs Babbacombe, Buckland vs Watcombe, Mount Gould vs Beesands and Paignton Villa vs Buckfastleigh.

True Blues 2nds will finally get their league season underway in Division Two with what could be a tricky game at Paignton Villa 2nds and Kingskerswell versus Ivybridge Town could be a close encounter.

The game in Division Three at Kate Brook between Chudleigh Ath 2nds and Newton Abbot 66 2nds has two teams that want to keep a good start to the season going and kicks off at 1pm. This is then followed with a 3pm start for Chudleigh Ath 1sts who take on Newton Abbot Spurs in the Premier Division.

Stoke Gabriel TP get their second outing of the season when Liverton Utd 2nds are the visitors.

And what a game to get your weekend off to a flyer in Division Four at Homers Heath where two of the leagues new teams meet at 7.30pm on Friday 25. Buckland Ath 3rds versus Signal Box 2nds sees the league’s highest scoring teams with 34 goals between them in just two games go head-to-head to stay at the top.

In Division Five, Waldon Ath 2nds are the latest team to attempt to stop Tamerton Foliot moving further ahead at the top. The game is at Plymstock School and the big question is, can Waldon draw for the fourth game in a row? Both teams are yet to lose.
