Wrangaton Golf Club
The second major event of the year took place on Saturday alongside the monthly medal. The weather was poor which made conditions very testing.
Gary Clasby was the winner of the Courtney Lane trophy with a score of net 72. Tommy Ryder finished up in second place in division one with a score of net 73.
Gary Ryder won the second division with an impressive net 70 in the tough conditions, with Richard Brown claiming second spot with net 71.
Pete Scholz was the winner of division three with net 70, finishing two shots clear of Richard Allen in second. Peter Bird had the only two of the day, which resulted in a healthy credit to his pro shop account.
On Friday, the first captain’s night of the year took place. Club captain Mike Tremain was pleased with the turn out for his first captain’s evening and thanked the players for their support. Ben Loughran was the winner of the nine-hole competition with a score of 20 points. Four players finished with 18 points and Gary Clasby took the runners-up spot on countback. Francis Sparkes won the nearest the pin on the 12th hole and Chris Stolworthy did the same on the 17th.
The senior section travelled to Teignmouth for a friendly match on Tuesday. The weather was great and the players enjoyed the day. It was a tightly contested match and the scores finished tied with both teams managing two wins, two losses and two halves.
Wendy Roberts was the winner of the mid-week stableford with a score of 33 points on a very tough day with high winds and cold weather. Kim Flook finished second with 30 points.
