Ruth Bickle and Val Holman played in the finals of the ladies’ club knockout, the Epergne Trophy. This competition is played throughout the spring and summer.

Both ladies played well despite the weather, with Ruth finally emerging victorious on the 17th hole.

Congratulations were given to both players by Katie Purcell as she awarded the trophy to Ruth.

The stableford was won by Angie Newman with 34 points, while Kim Flook came in second with 31 points on countback from Wendy Roberts.

The men’s section played a ‘both scores to count’ stableford last weekend: 24 pairs took part and out of the 48 players there were seven twos by L Mundell (two), Sean Chalcraft, D Hodge, G Hughs, B Jackson and J Axten.

Lee Mundell and Johnathan Axten won the event with 71 points. Second place went to Sean Chalcraft and Darren Hodge with 68 points, one point more than Chris Harper and Mark Scrivener, while in fourth were Stuart Newberry and Martin Squires on 65.

Last week’s captain’s night was played on the front nine from the yellow tees, but on the ninth hole you had to play from a 150-yard marker, making the ninth a par three.

Club captain Mike Tremain scored 20 points, followed by Bob Mclellan and Dan Stones, both with 18 points, but with Bob in front on countback. Alison Dunkley won the ladies’ section with 11 points.
