South Brent Judo Club judoka have earned national recognition.
With huge credit to the club’s coaches Pete Whitfield, Steve Squire and Gary Gregory, an amazing six judoka have been selected in the England programme.
The players that have earned the right to wear the rose are Josh Shipp, Adam Vosper, Lewis Widdicombe and Cerys Callard for the cadets and Pierre Michelin and Cordelia Gregory for the pre-cadets.
The players have been awarded their squad place because of their amazing performance during 2016. Adam (ICC), Josh (Brixham College) and Cordelia (Plymstock) all won gold at the British National Championships in December, as well as topping the Ippon League throughout the year.
Lewis and Pierre (both from ICC) won bronze at the nationals as well as topping the ranking list. Cerys (KCC) also had a great year with a high ranking on the Ippon League.
With numerous selection events throughout the year, it is very much hoped that other South Brent judoka will also earn the coveted rose.
To some it is a mystery why such a small village club has been so successful in recent years. It’s no mystery to its members and supporters, who see a safe and welcoming atmosphere where beginners and all level of judoka are welcome.
