September has already been busy for South Brent Judo Club.

On September 5, seven players competed at the Heart of England competition in Walsall. The Hearts is a notoriously difficult event that attracts high-calibre competitors.

Kolya Schwinge continued his very impressive form to dominate in the under-60kg and win gold.

Three silvers followed for Davy Grey, Josh Shipp and Cerys Callard.

Davy Grey moved up a weight group into the U50kg and with skilful judo won silver. Cerys Callard (U36kg) fought up to U40kg, and despite being at a weight disadvantage showed great determination. Josh Shipp (U38kg) fought brilliantly and narrowly missed out on gold.

Scarlett Hodge, Adam Vosper and Lewis Widdicombe fought well, but finished just outside the medals.

Saturday, September 12, saw 14 South Brent Judo players and two Plymouth Judo Club judoka join 120 other judoka for an inter-club training session in Weston-super-Mare.

The session, led by Bradley, Stoke and Weston, attracted players from all over the west as well as a squad from Wales.

Judo’s rising stars Pete Miles, Steph Walker and Lele Nairne were on hand to inspire and support the young players.

Inter-club rivalries were set aside to develop and promote the talent of the young judoka.
