IVYBRIDGE moved up to second place in South West Two West after handing out a 63-12 hiding to lowly Winscombe.

The five points gained by Ivybridge took them past Tiverton, whose defeat by leaders Penzance cost them second spot.

Winger Angus Skinner, flanker Jack Skinner and centre Adam Lilley all scored two tries for the Bridge in a one-sided affair.

Winscombe were 53-0 down before they got on the board at all, which underlined Ivybridge’s dominance.

Steve Atkinson, the coaching supremo at Cross-in-Hand, said the game was one-sided because Ivybridge stuck to the script.

“It wasn’t a case of us running try after try: we had to really work our systems and shapes to break down a tough Winscombe defence,” said Atkinson.

“We ran-in lots of well-worked tries and I was especially happy with how hard the boys worked for all the points.

“Winscombe didn’t give up and managed to pinch a couple when we somehow managed to get a man in the bin at 53-0 up.

“On the whole very happy and looking forward to a weekend off.”

Angus Harris claimed the first try of the match and by the break Lilley scored two in a row, Hamish Harris got one, Tom Hancocks got one and Lilley grabbed his first. Only one Harry Newman-Wild conversion went over.

Five tries followed in the second half from Ed Foster, Angus Harris, Owen Garner, Newman-Wild and finally Skinner. Matt Grieveson took over the kicking and finished with three from six.

Elsewhere in this division, Okehampton were defeated narrowly at North Petherton, Nailsea & Backwell and Wadebridge Camels tied 28 points apiece, Penzance & Newlyn and Sherborne won at home against Tiverton and Crediton respectively whilst Teignmouth’s wait for a win rolls on after losing to Wiveliscombe at Bitton Park.
