A major search is underway for a missing woman who was last seen in the South Hams.

Emergency services were called to the Hope Cove area at around 2pm on Monday.

After two-and-a-half hours the search had to be called off due to fading light.

Falmouth Coastguard confirmed no-one had been found and it was an "ongoing incident".

Kingsbridge Police said: “A major land, sea, and air search took place on Monday to look for a missing female who was last seen in the area of Hope Cove.

“Overseen by a police lost person search manager, Coastguard teams conducted cliff-based and rope access searches, Salcombe RNLI lifeboats and the Hope Cove lifeboat searched the sea and coastline, NPAS police helicopters searched the land and sea, and Dartmoor Rescue teams from Plymouth searched inland.

“As of yet, the lady has not been located and searches are continuing on Tuesday.”

Drew Parkinson, HM Coastguard area commander, said: “Coastguard rescue teams from Bigbury, Prawle Point and Yealm assisted a Devon and Cornwall Police search for a missing person in Hope Cove on Monday afternoon and throughout the night.

"Teams worked alongside the Salcombe RNLI, Hope Cove Life Boat, Dartmoor Search and Rescue, Kingsbridge Police and NPAS Exeter.

“The search continues on Tuesday.”
