A 25-year old unemployed man who appeared in Plymouth Magistrates Court on five separate charges, including racially aggravated assault and stalking, has been sentenced to 18 weeks in prison, suspended for two years.
Liam McCarthy of Springwood Close in Ivybridge was charged with stalking Jasmin Arey between November 1, 2017 and April 19, 2018. For this offence, he received 18 weeks in prison, suspended for two years.
McCarthy was further charged with two counts of racially aggravated assault against Zachariah Tarsey and another woman on May, 6 this year. On these counts he received five weeks for each charge to run concurrently, also suspended for two years.
On the count of racially aggravated criminal damage, namely destroying prescription glasses to the value of £15 belonging to one of the women, McCarthy received five weeks in prison to run concurrently, suspended for two years. He was also ordered to pay £15 compensation for the damaged glasses.
Compensation was also awarded to Amy Hogarth, namely £300 for damage to a smart phone and £30 for glasses. This offence took place on May, 6 this year.
