A SCHEME to help breathe new life into broken electrical equipment is coming to Ivybridge, and calling on local people who may have technical skills to share.

A Repair It event is being held in the town on Saturday, September 10, from 10am to 1pm at the Methodist Church, Fore Street.

Repair It involves local volunteers with technical repair skills helping others to fix and maintain their small electrical appliances, free.

Organisers from Devon County Council’s Re-use Project are looking for local menders for electrical items, gadgets and computers, and asking anyone with mending skills they could contribute to get in touch.

The event has the backing of local sustainability group PL:21 Transition Initiative. Its chairman Tony Barber said: ‘PL:21 aims to encourage sustainable behaviour and Repair It fits with this. These events are about reducing waste and helping people to save money by repairing items, rather than buying new ones. They also help to celebrate and nurture the repair skills that are found within the local community.

’We are sure there are lots of people in Ivybridge with the right kind of knowledge and skills to fix small household electrical items and we want to make contact with them in order to bring them together to help others.’

Re-use Project co-ordinator Emma Croft added: ‘If you think you might have the right skills to offer at this event then we would love to hear from you. Please get in touch with me on 07966 566435 or via [email protected] to find out more.’
