I read in your esteemed publication that there is a considerable argument on Facebook regarding to the imminent opening of Subway in Kingsbridge.

Anyone who had the wherewithal to read the legal notices in the Gazette would have seen this coming months ago.

It was fairly obvious and it would appear that the yummy mummy army has mobilised too late.

I took the advice of an ex-boss of mine years ago, in the CB radio era. He told me that you have to talk to enough people who you don’t want to in life without encouraging any more of them.

The same, in my opinion, applies to Facebook.

A face-to-face discussion is far more productive, although it requires a different skill set.

I was recently reminded that the most divisive social tool of the moment is the send button. How true.

It is apparent that the local purveyors of sandwiches, rolls, baps etc, and their customers, have never been to the excellent sandwich bar in Ashburton, a town of similar size. If they had, they would have learnt from its success and improved their range and quality of service.

As things stand, the available choice from the independent retailers is very limited and only a national brand comes near to providing what today’s market demands.

I really must get my kids to start a campaign to reopen the Blacksmiths in Kingsbridge. On Facebook, of course.
