I am writing in response to Tina Ryders letter’s, Gazette, March 25, regarding the lack of motorcycle parking space following the revamp of the car park at the top of Fore Street in Kingsbridge.

I also contacted South Hams Council and was told that the council was ‘monitoring the situation’ – but no improvement has been made since I got in contact many months ago.

The new motorcycle bay is square and this is partly the problem.

There is room for four motorcycles with space behind for another two, but with the two bikes behind the front four are blocked in.

A longer, thinner strip would be a solution.

If I shop at the top of Fore Street I now take the van and park – legally – on Fore Street when possible. This of course means that the problem of deliveries to shops on Fore Street, as well as the damage to kerbs and pavement due to parking on the right-hand side of the road is possibly made worse.

More motorcycle parking or a better design for the parking area would help congestion and free up more parking in town in my opinion.
