STUDENTS at Ivybridge Community College celebrated last week after achieving a 100 per cent A-level pass rate for the third consecutive year.

The impressive record means many youngsters from the area are once again looking forward to starting courses at top-flight British universities including Bristol, Birmingham, Exeter and Durham.

The college’s results saw 49 per cent of grades at A* to B, an increase of three per cent on last year.

Nearly one in three passes were at A or A*, while more than 30 students achieved all A*, A and distinction grades.

Principal Rob Haring said: ‘These are terrific results that show our sixth form is continuing to maintain the highest standards.

‘Staff and students have worked extremely hard to secure these results and I’m tremendously proud of everyone’s efforts.

‘We are delighted to celebrate an increase in the number of students attaining excellent results in science.

‘This has resulted in an increased number securing places at Russell Group universities to study science and science based subjects.

‘But it is not only our academic grades that have been good.

‘Our sixth form policy is one of inclusiveness, and we’ve seen students excelling in less traditional National Diploma subjects such as art and design, performing arts and sports, who have been accepted for some of the top universities in the country, and one student who has been awarded a scholarship at the University of IOWA, USA.

‘We also have a number of students that will now enter the world of work, but with impressive grades they have greatly improved their life chances.

‘I’m happy that we have been able to support these students in getting what they deserve by helping to raise their ambitions, giving them the highest quality teaching and encouraging them to strive to achieve their very best.’
