A woman who died in a violent incident in Dartmouth this week has been named locally named as Rebecca Grass, known to friends and family as Bex.

In an emotional post online, Ms Grass’s son, Reece Romeril, paid tribute to his mother and described the difficulty of coming to terms with her death.

“As many of you have been informed, on Wednesday morning I had CID turn up to my work to inform me with some bad news.

“In Dartmouth, there was a murder of a 46-year-old woman on Tuesday evening… my own mother.

“How someone can brutally kill my mother in such a horrible way is absolutely terrifying to think about.

“Dealing with this is something I would have never expected in life, and times have been difficult lately for sure.

“My thoughts are with the ones who loved her and my family. We are taking this very seriously and working with detectives and the CID.”

Police and paramedics were called to reports of a man creating a disturbance at a property on Newcomen Road, Dartmouth, at about 21:20 BST on Tuesday.

Devon and Cornwall Police said a woman in her 40s was pronounced dead at the scene, with a man in his 40s taken to hospital having sustained facial injuries which are not believed to be life-changing.

A local man in his 30s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder, and remains in custody.

Mr Romeril added that a GoFundMe page would be set up to raise money for the send-off “the kindest of souls deserves”.

He concluded his post with the words: “RIP MUM, I love you so much and miss you already”.

Concerned commenters have also appealed for information about the welfare of Ms Grass’s Border Collie, Rainbow.

Devon and Cornwall Police previously confirmed that a dog connected to the incident had escaped from the property but was caught by a member of the public.

Police have not formally identified the victim publicly, although her next of kin have been informed.

Police have not released details of a suspected weapon or a possible motive for the killing. They are not currently seeking anyone else in connection with the death.
