Police are seeking volunteers to help tackle speeding in Ivybridge, where officers say they have received a number of reports from residents about driving standards.
Ivybridge and Rural Police said there was currently no Community Speed Watch group operating in the town and urged residents to consider helping establish one.
The volunteer-led scheme allows local people to work alongside Devon and Cornwall Police to raise awareness of speeding and encourage safer driving. The force said it could be an effective way to address concerns in areas where speeding had become an issue.
In a social media post, Ivybridge and Rural Police said officers would continue to carry out patrols and speed monitoring where appropriate, but wanted to hear from residents interested in joining the initiative.
The appeal follows comments and reports from residents about speeding and driving standards in parts of Ivybridge. Police did not identify specific roads or provide details of the reports in the post.
Community Speed Watch volunteers help highlight speeding concerns in their communities and support efforts to educate drivers. The scheme gives residents a way to get involved in road safety locally, including in streets and areas used by pedestrians and cyclists.
Police said the scheme could be relevant to people concerned about speeding near their homes, on residential streets, or around places regularly used by pedestrians and cyclists.
The force said the absence of a group in Ivybridge meant residents had an opportunity to help set one up.
Anyone interested in finding out more or helping establish a Community Speed Watch group in the area is asked to email [email protected].
Further information about the scheme is available through the Devon and Cornwall Police road safety website.
The force thanked residents for their continued support in helping to keep Ivybridge’s roads safe.
