A new podcast has been launched to discuss mental health issues.
Devon Partnership NHS Trust (DPT) aims to encourage open conversations, reduce stigma and share stories of hope and recovery.
‘Room to Talk’ brings together clinicians, colleagues and people with lived experience to explore mental health, wellbeing and recovery through honest and compassionate conversations.
The first episode, ‘My Story, My Recovery’, is hosted by internationally recognised mental health advocate and founder of The Lions Barber Collective, Tom Chapman.
He is joined by Will Ferdinand, a Nursing Assistant and Expert by Experience at DPT, who shares his personal experience of mental health difficulties, recovery and support.
Phill Mantay, Chief Executive of Devon Partnership NHS Trust, said: “Mental health issues affect us all, either directly or through the people we care about.
“Room to Talk has been created to provide a safe and supportive space where people can share their experiences openly and honestly.
“By listening to lived experiences, we can challenge stigma, improve understanding and help people feel less alone.”
Tom Chapman said: “One of the most powerful things we can do for someone is create the space for them to be heard.
“Through Room to Talk, we hope to encourage conversations that help people realise they’re not alone and that support is available.”
During Men’s Mental Health Month in November, the podcast will focus on men’s mental health, including the importance of reaching out for support and the help available through TALKWORKS.
Further episodes will follow in the run-up to Christmas and over the festive period, looking at ways to support mental health and wellbeing during a time of year that can bring its own pressures and challenges.
The first episode of Room to Talk is available at: https://www.dpt.nhs.uk/room-to-talk-podcast as well as YouTube and Spotify.
