IVYBRIDGE was taken over by a zombie horde on Saturday thanks to a unique Halloween event.
The town’s very first zombie walk took place as darkness fell on Saturday evening, and saw 25 people in scarily convincing costume and make up stagger and groan their way through Ivybridge centre and surrounding estates.
Organiser Edd (CORR.)Johns, who put the word out and recruited the undead army via his Ivybridge Zombie Walk Facebook page, said it had been very well received by locals and no one had been too frightened. He hopes the event will be the first of many, and will be bigger and better next year.
Edd said: ’I’ve done the Bristol zombie walk for the last two years, which gave me the inspiration to try and do something similar in my home town. I don’t know where the idea originally came from, but I guess zombies have become a bit of a cult thing.
’Everybody we met along the way took it in good spirits and many said they would do it next year.
’This year was a bit of an experiment to see if it would work in a comparatively small town centre compared to Bristol. I included some residential areas, which worked well, there was quite a bit of curtain twitching and we were invited to a few houses.
’Our youngest participant was six and the oldest 50, so it was a good range of ages. A few lessons learnt and a few ideas for a bigger and better event next year.
’If we could get a couple of hundred people doing it, it would bring a lot of people into the town and help put Ivybridge on the map.’
