Nicholas Bradshaw, of Fore Street, Kingsbridge, writes:

‘£76,000 on a master planning exercise to regenerate the quayside heart of Kingsbridge.’ The last time this nonsense was broached, it was rejected.

The multistorey car park, the development of the bus station, the bistros and tourist attractions and all the rest of the palaver were firmly turned down by Kingsbridge residents, who did not want to see their town turned into a cross between a fifth-rate holiday camp and a profit swamp for cheapskate developers. Not one penny should be spent on rehashing this nonsense.

There is something insidious and cynical going on when a plan is turned down and then represented again and again until eventually it is passed.

The quay is fine: tourists come, park their cars, use the town, enjoy the view. Long may it continue. Leave it alone.
