THE Rotary Club of Ivybridge provided another quacking morning’s fun at the weekend with the return of its annual duck race.

At 11am sharp, 1,000 ducks were set free from the footbridge at Glanvilles Mill, and allowed to float down the Erme towards the waiting catchers.

Rotary members were joined by Ivybridge mayor David Gray-Taylor, fresh from taking part in the traditional bridge crossing ceremony, to unleash the plastic birds.

The errant ducks were collected at the end of their swim, with the people lucky enough to have bought the first three winning prizes of £150, £75 and £35.

First prize went to Jeremy Woodward of Wood Park, second was won by Wendy from Country Maid, and the third duck across the finishing line was the property of ’Titch’ from David May Motors.

Club president Adrian D’Cunha explained the money would be split between Jeremiah’s Journey, the Devon Air Ambulance Trust, and several local charities like the Ivybridge Foodbank and Ivybridge and District Community Transport Association.

He added he aimed to make the duck race even bigger next year.
