HOLBETON Primary School has recently hosted 29 children and four teachers from their twin village, Bodilis near Roscoff.

This school exchange has been taking place for 24 years, ever since the two villages were twinned.

For three days, Year 5 and Year 6 had fun together on the beach, on the moor and in Plymouth. This wasn’t just a marvellous end of term treat, but a chance to discover each other’s culture by enjoying activities together.

Holbeton Twinning Association, Bodilis School and Holbeton Parents’ Association sponsored the event, while Holbeton school parents showed generous hospitality.

Holbeton Twinning Association chairman Janet Sellick said: ‘Holbeton is such a vibrant community that many people from the village, including some past pupils of the school supported the visit.’

From idyllic Mothecombe beach, perfect for games and rock pooling, to a hike and picnic near Haytor. From a nest of baby swallows in the porch of Widecombe church, to a group photo in front of Smeaton’s Tower in Plymouth.

From a climbing session at the Life Centre, to a delicious barbecue in the Holbeton community orchard - the Breton children all loved south Devon.

Next year, it is Holbeton schoolchildren’s turn for an action packed visit to Bodilis School in Brittany.

It will be the twinning’s silver anniversary, so they are expecting the warmest of welcomes!
