YOUNGSTERS from an Ivybridge primary school have enjoyed an action-packed lead up to Christmas, with carols and no fewer than four different plays.
Kicking things off in late November, key stage 2 children from Woodlands Park primary performed seasonal songs to a packed house at The Famous Lee Mill’s Christmas carol evening. The pint-sized crooners were a big hit with the audience and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Then last week, a triple bill of festive theatre was performed, year groups pairing up to stage a variety of entertaining plays.
Years 5 and 6 gave a heart-warming performance of Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol on Monday. The three classes divided the story between them, giving all ninety children a chance to shine.
Tuesday saw children in Years 3 and 4 performing a play they had written themselves, in which Father Christmas daydreams of snow for his big day. The story was based on a play, Olive and the Dream Train, in which Olive gets in trouble for her constant daydreaming in school, and was renamed Santa and the Dream Sleigh.
Wednesday saw younger children perform Listen, Listen - Can you hear Christmas? Based on a book by Phillis Gershator and Allison Jay celebrating the sounds of the four seasons, the play included poems written and performed by the pupils, seasonal songs and dance.
The audience also had a chance to buy mince pies made and packaged by the children, with proceeds going to the school’s sponsorship of a child through charity Action Aid.
And not to be left out, the run of seasonal action finished with a traditional nativity play – A Miracle Story. The performance by the Sunshine Room and Sea Room foundation classes warmed the hearts of the many parents, grandparents and friends in the audience.
Woodlands Park Primary School would like to wish everyone a very merry Christmas.
