Carnival came to a South Hams primary school after pupils learnt how to play samba music.

Using a samba set on loan from Devon Music Hub, youngsters at Shaugh Prior Primary School have been honing their musical skills.

Pupils really took to the energetic Brazilian music, so the school council decided to use some of their funding to buy in a peripatetic teacher for the day. A fantastic time was had by all thanks to Tina Hunt, a professional drummer who offers workshops for schools in the local area.

The day culminated in an assembly for families, where children showed off their samba prowess as well as carnival headdresses, face paints and costumes.

A spokesman for the school paid tribute to Tina and the children’s energy and enthusiasm during a ’fantastically noisy day’.
