YOUNGSTERS from a local primary school wowed visitors with a science and design and technology exhibition.

The Erme Primary School put on the event earlier in the month to share what pupils had learnt during a whole school project - ‘Frozen’.

The four week project involved children investigating the properties of different everyday materials and states of matter. They used this learning to design and make a product to help keep something cool in a hot country, like thermos flasks or lunch boxes.

The children were excited to share and discuss their work, which included experiment write ups, product designs and their final product made with a variety of materials. It was a fantastic opportunity for the children to discuss their learning with their parents and was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Isaac and Alesha, school councillors from Year 3 said: ’It has been really fun experimenting with all of the materials and then we got to make our own product using them at the end. It’s nice to share our work with the parents and everyone else in the school.’

The Erme’s science leader Leanne Askew, who performs the same role for the wider Moorsway Federation of Schools said: ’Science is a major part of the children’s curriculum at The Erme and we believe it is very important to share this learning with parents and carers.

’In the lead up to the science exhibition each class also held three ’Super Science’ mornings, where children were able to bring their parents in to investigate ideas in science together. It has been a great opportunity for children to celebrate their learning and explain their thinking to a different audience.

’Thank you to everyone that came and to the children for their hard work.’
