ERME Primary School in Ivybridge has installed a new teaching kitchen, thanks to generous donations and the hard work of a team of parents, volunteers and tradespeople.

It was finished on Sunday, April 17 by a team of three parent helpers. The room is already being used to teach children how to cook, and the Friends of the Erme Primary School are thrilled with their achievement after a year of really hard fundraising, including a £250 donation from Richardsons Legal Services.

Kay Winstone, the PTA chair of Friends of the Erme Primary School said: ‘We are so very grateful for the generous donation from Richardsons Legal Services to help kit out our wonderful space.

‘The money has been put to good use adding window blinds meaning the room can be used even on sunny days - when we do actually see some sunshine!

‘Thank you so much, you have helped us reach our goal that bit earlier and the children will gain the benefit.’

Kay added: ‘We have managed to do everything we needed to apart from the specific flooring because the quote came in at more than £900.

‘We would like to say a big thank you to all for the support, both financial and hands on.’

Cookery lessons are now part of the National Curriculum and this space will allow for cookery lessons during the school day. There are also plans to establish an out of hours cookery club. The school are hugely committed to healthy eating and are now looking at raising funds for some planters in the small playground so the children can grow their own food and cook it too.

Richardsons Legal Services will be having a table at the school’s summer fair, to be held on Thursday, June 23 from 3.30pm.

For each order at the summer fair, RLS will provide the Friends of the Erme Primary School with £25 in order to help them finish their playground.
