MORE than 100 eager young rugby players descended on Holbeton School recently for its annual tag rugby festival.

The event for Year 3 and 4 pupils was a great success, attracting 13 teams from 11 primary schools in the Ivybridge area.

Participants included children from Holbeton School as well as Newton Ferrers, Cornwood, Manor Primary in Ivybridge, Modbury, Ermington, Ugborough, Stowford School in Ivybridge, Woodlands and Shaugh Prior.

The youngsters demonstrated excellent tag rugby skills, team work and fitness in the non-competitive event. Each team played at least four games, and six referees kindly provided by Ivybridge Community College encouraged and helped the children enjoy the day.

The afternoon was well supported by parents and Holbeton School Association sold out of their delicious homemade cakes, hot dogs, burgers and tea.

PE coordinator at Holbeton School and festival organiser Suzanne Moiser said: ’I have been running this event for a number of years, and it has always been one of the most well attended sporting events in the Ivybridge Learning Community calendar.

’It is great to see pupils from all the schools develop their tag rugby skills and have fun, supported by their parents who come along to the event and enjoy the lovely homemade cakes provided by our school association.’
