YEAR 5 youngsters at Stowford School had the chance to study and interview some live specimens as part of their work on the human life cycle.

Pupils at the Ivybridge primary have been looking at a variety of life cycles from the animal kingdom, including that of humans.

So they were particularly happy when Lisa Nute brought her two children Phoenix, 19 months and Freya, 4, in to school. Lisa’s visit allowed them to find out more about how babies, toddlers and children develop and change.

Before the visit pupils created a range of open and closed questions in their English sessions that would help them find out both facts and opinions and feelings. They used the questions to interview Lisa like reporters, asking questions and taking notes which they will use to create magazine articles.

Year 5 teacher James Nute said: ’The children had put a great deal of thought into preparing questions that would give them a range of information about the early stages of human development.

’From progress in communication and eating, to differences in social and educational skills, the children used the opportunity to grill Lisa and collect material for their writing, and made the most of the opportunity to interact with their visitors.

’I am really looking forward to seeing their finished articles.’
