Paralympic athlete, David Hill put primary school children through their paces when he led a Sports for School afternoon.

The children from Erme Primary School in Ivybridge were inspired to have a go at running on the spot, press-ups, leg drives and star jumps, spending roughly a minute on each activity.

After this brief taster of how it feels to be an Olympic athlete, David led an inspiring all-school assembly explaining to the children how he became a Paralympic athlete at the age of just 15.

David got his first taste of success in 2004 when he reached the finals of the 100 metres backstroke in the Athens Paralympic Games. Over a 12-year career as a para-swimmer he won numerous medals at the World Para Swimming Championships (formerly known as the International Paralympic Committee Swimming European and World Championships). He retired from swimming in the summer of 2012 before going on to join the British para-triathlon squad in 2013, taking part in the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

A spokesperson from Erme Primary School said the school was delighted to welcome David and wished him all the best for his future competitions.
