STOWFORD School pupils were lucky enough to have a visit from an illustrator and parent at the school who worked on books in the popular Horrible History series.

Dave Smith spent time with Stowford’s Year 4 classes, helping them get their Egyptian topic off to a creative start.

The children had learnt about the ancient Egyptian creation story, and started to think about the range of Egyptian gods. Dave showed them how to draw the gods and goddesses by breaking images down into shapes at first and then adding detail to build up the picture gradually. He also showed them how to add colour effectively.

Year 4 teacher Abi Hurdle said: ’The children were very keen to put the skills Dave taught them to the test, and all had a go at creating their own picture. The resulting artwork made it clear to see that they had learnt some new techniques and skills, and had used them really effectively.’
