Seven girls from a South Hams primary school have raised a whopping £237.43 for Cancer Research.

The group approached Woodlands Park Primary head Sarah Rogers six weeks ago to ask if they could organise their own fund raising event at the Ivybridge school. They told Mrs Rogers they wanted to make a difference and have a positive impact.

Over the following weeks they held regular meetings to organise their efforts, produced posters to publicise the event and began furiously making loom bands, friendship bracelets and baking cakes to sell.

On Friday, February 24 the girls held their sale during breaktime, attracting long queues and lots of pocket money from the rest of the school. By the end of breaktime they had completely sold out, and raised the impressive total.

A school spokesman said: "Such commitment, organisation, team work and community spirit is to be hugely commended, and the staff and children at Woodlands Park are extremely proud of Molly, Ella, Lola, Poppy, Teigan, Ebony and Isabelle."
