FOUR gifted youngsters from Stowford School enjoyed a special course about space, the solar system and global warming recently.
The four were chosen from Year 5 at the Ivybridge primary for the ‘gifted and talented’ space and science programme. Gifted and talented is a term used in schools to describe children who have the potential to develop significantly beyond what is expected for their age.
The class was run by astronomer Clive Purchase from the Callington Space Centre, and was attended by children from local schools.
On the course, Stowford pupils Jade, Alice, Kieran and Thomas learnt about how space is special, and what they can do to stop global warming. They learnt about the sun, the moon and all the planets in the solar system.
The day included a presentation where certificates were awarded for hard work, and finishing the course.
Thomas said afterwards: ‘This was an enjoyable experience for us all. We’d like to thank Ugborough school for hosting, and Clive for running such a wonderful and informative course.’
