THE manager of a wet fish shop has been sent a mysterious gift and now she is trying to get to the bottom of who has given it to her.
Emma Carter runs Catch of the Day in Fore Street, Kingsbridge, with her husband Darren.
She received a large box in the post recently, inside which was a fishing trawler lovingly handmade out of hundreds of matchsticks.
The trawler, marked with the name ‘Emma C’, has been painstakingly decorated and rests on a plinth painted to look like the sea.
However, the identity of the mystery craftsman remains unknown and Emma would like to say thank you.
She said: ‘I phoned the post office and they said it had been posted in Ivybridge. I also spoke to my family, but they all said it wasn’t them.
‘It was addressed just to me, using my previous name – I got married in May, and it was sent to the shop.
‘Someone’s gone to the effort of making it and sending it and I’d kind of like to say thank you.
‘It’s just peculiar and a bit random.’
Emma said she is not aware of any of her customers being admirers and that her husband ‘finds it very amusing’.
She added: ‘I used
to be a skipper on a trawler, so I guess that’s where the idea came from. I suppose most of my customers are aware of that.’
If the sender would like to come forward and make themselves known to Emma, she would love to say thank you in person.
