Ugborough and Bittaford Preschool have had fundraising success in their sell-out annual event, Ugfest.

The Pre-school hosted the mini-festival on the evening of Saturday June, 17 which was held at Hillhead Farm.

350 tickets were sold for the event, which boasted local bands, a Dunwell Farm Hogroast, real ales from New Lion and South Hams breweries, local ciders, a cake stall provided by the Village Hall, and a barbecue manned by the bellringer’s of Ugborough’s St. Peter’s Church.

One of the highlights of the evening was Shelley Johns’s recently transformed vintage horse trailer, Gloria, which made its debut at ‘Ugfest’ as a Pimms stall. The new addition proved very popular, helped in raising money for Ugborough Primary School’s PTA and was a fantastic fun addition to the evening.

Local band, The Longfaces were headlining at the event for the third consecutive year and their performance was outstanding and described by an avid follower as ‘the best’.

The band, whose members almost all live within Ugborough Parish gave an impressive set and kept the crowd dancing and entertained throughout the evening. Band member Geraint also wowed the crowd with his electronic dance music set.

The community event, as well as the hotly contested silent auction, raised much welcomed funds for the Preschool, Breakfast Club and After School Club. The organisers also welcomed other Ugborough charities to share in the event’s success with the Bellringer’s barbecue, and the Village Hall cake stall, keeping crowds well fed throughout the evening.

The chair of Ugborough Pre-school, Lucy, said: ‘Ugfest is the ultimate fundraiser for us, enabling our children to have an enriched timetable providing Forest School, cookery, music and arts and crafts and many other activities which would not be possible without it.’

She continues: ‘seeing everyone enjoying themselves for the benefit of the next generation makes Ugfest a very special community event.’

‘I would like to thank everyone who came and supported us on the night, and especially the staff, committee and extended team of volunteers whose hard work and goodwill made such an amazing event possible’.

The Longfaces, Gloria the Pimms stall, and the Bellringer’s barbecue will be back together in full fundraising force at the Ugborough Village Fair which will be held on Saturday July, 8 from 2pm in the Village Square.

The enthusiastic fair organising committee have made extra efforts to make the fair fun and enjoyable for children in particular this year, and welcome everyone along.
