A TALENTED youngster from Ivybridge Community College has cooked his way to victory in the area final of a national competition.

Harvey Dunn won a heat of the Rotary Young Chef contest that was held at the school.

He beat six other budding chefs, including Barley Christie and Leanne Daniels who are also from Ivybridge Community College.

Contestants had to prepare a three-course meal for two people, with ingredients costing less than £15, and after judging Harvey took first place with his ‘hunting and foraging’ menu.

His menu included cream of mushroom soup, braised pheasant, and a layered vanilla, raspberry and passion fruit pannacotta.

Rotary member Stephen Kings was there to preside over the competition, assisted by the three judges. They were: head chef of The Samphire Bush Restaurant in Plymouth Martin Benjamin; his front of house Maja Sinkiewicz; and food and wine writer and critic Stephen Barrett.

Harvey will be joined by the second placed student at the next heat, which will take place at Exeter College in the new year.

All seven competitors will receive a professional chef’s jacket with their name embroidered on it as well as a certificate.
