A community choir led by a South Brent musician is looking for new members as it works towards the climax of 2017.
Peter Scott leads both SING Plymouth and SING Exeter. The former is now in its third year and is looking to recruit more singers.
No experience is necessary and the choir is open to anyone and everyone who wants to sing.
The choir will soon start working with renowned American jazz musicians Steph Johnson and double-bassist Rob Thorsen, who are visiting the UK at the beginning of October. Steph and Rob will be working with the choir to teach members a song to be performed at an end of year charity performance in December.
This will be held at Totnes Civic Hall on Saturday, December 16 in aid of Beyond Borders, a charity helping asylum seekers and refugees in the south of Devon. SING Exeter will join their sister choir for the first half of the performance, which will be followed by tunes from the Hothouse Band, also fronted by Peter Scott.
Peter said: “Our choirs are about singing for a common good: to make people feel happier and healthier through singing, while also supporting good causes through our charity performances. In December, we hope to better the more than £1,500 we raised for The Kambeng Trust at our last event, and to have a marvelous time doing it.
“We are really delighted to have the input of Steph Johnson, who will bring loads of energy to our choir sessions, preparing us for our performance in December. If this all sounds like fun, and anyone out there wants to sing with us, then please do join in.”

Steph Johnson and Rob Thorsen will also be performing at a community fundraiser in aid of treatment for a woman with breast cancer – Music from the Heart – which will take place on Sunday, October 22, from 3.30pm-5.30pm at St John’s Church, Totnes.
