CHILDREN at Stowford School went back to the eighties as they brought their own twist to the classical musical The Sound of Music.

As well as the classic songs from the well-known musical, they used dance and 1980s songs to retell the story of novice nun Maria taking on the regimented von Trap children, falling in love with the captain and hatching a daring plot to escape the Nazis.

Year 6 teacher, Rowena Chislett, said: 'This year's production was ambitious but the children rose to the occasion and delivered a truly spectacular performance.

'The standard of singing, particularly on the solos, was amazing, and testament to the fact that Stowford is a music specialism school.

'The feedback from parents was extremely complementary and we would like to thank Sharon Kee, our PE specialist teacher, for all her support and input on the dance routines that were second to none.

'The children have put so much time and effort into the production, from the back stage crew to the stars of the show, and it was so lovely to see all their commitment pay off.'
