Joanna Muller, of Thurlestone, writes:
I felt so disappointed reading the article written about the Village Inn, Gazette, October 14.
For starters, is there really so little going on in the surrounding areas that a story needs to be written about people having a drink past 11.20pm during
the summer months in a pub where tourism trade is what it survives on?
I can safely say, being a local myself, living a few metres up the road from the Village Inn pub and having done so for more than 20 years – and now having three young children – I have never known a problem or noise complaints, ever.
I used to be one of those members of staff and enjoyed many nights in the Village Inn, and in the winter months I am pretty sure we were the only source of income for the pub, which I think has always been quite let down by the local community.
I feel outraged that a story has been printed where there is no comments from the other side – the staff, perhaps? Actual locals who have lived there for more than three seconds? I thought the Gazette was better than just running biased and unfair stories.
I really hope that whoever is complaining is managing to get a better night’s sleep now they have managed to have every member of staff punished by being banned from the pub that they use to socialise in after working so hard, especially in the summer months. They should be being rewarded and enjoying a bit of downtime.
I hope you have sweet dreams knowing that some young people have lost their jobs over this, their livelihoods. I hope you’re now satisfied that you have put up a huge barrier in what was quite a harmonious relationship between the staff and management in a pub that has been there for more than a century with no problems whatsoever, whereas you have been in the village for a few years. I know who I’d prefer to see going.
Moral of the story? If you don’t like noise from a pub, then perhaps best not to move opposite one.
