IN the Devon South West constituency, long-serving Conservative Gary Streeter was returned with a huge majority of more than 20,000.
Labour's Chaz Singh came in second with a share of the vote up 4.2 per cent on his party's showing in 2010.
Ukip's Robin Julian was third, close behind Labour, while Liberal Democrat Tom Davies and Green Win Scutt were fourth and fifth respectively. In line with nationwide results, Mr Davies saw his share of the vote drop by 16.7 per cent on 2010's.
Mr Streeter said: 'I'm thrilled to have been returned to Westminster once more and humbled by the size of the majority.
'It's vital that everybody knows that, irrespective of how they voted, my job is to represent every constituent and I will do this to the best of my ability.
'I'm excited about being part of a Conservative government that has a mandate to transform our nation.'
Liberal Democrat candidate Tom Davies said: 'For my part, I would just like to send my thanks to everyone who voted on the day: it's very comforting to see that, even in what is a very safe seat, over 70 per cent of people voted.
'I would also like to thank everyone who organised and attended one of the three hustings we held – these were very enjoyable, and from the candidates' perspective, challenging events.'
