I was angered by the scurrilous attack made by your correspondent Martin McGown-Scanlon on Dr Sarah Wollaston.

I see her as a lady of high principle who is prepared to think for herself and who does not always accept the party whip – especially on medical matters.

She has not flip-flopped as Mr McGowan-Scanlon asserts.

At the time of the referendum in June 2016, the ramifications of the vote were far from clearly understood. Has Theresa May flip-flopped? She voted remain.

The promised cheque for £350m a week returning to the NHS appears to have been lost in the post. Many other issues were not highlighted prior to the referendum.

It is worth recording that an estimated 1.4 million were too young to vote at the time of the referendum. They deserve at say, especially so as young people voted overwhelmingly to remain.

The majority of MPs and the majority of the Cabinet voted remain. The young people of our country will be the ones who will reap the whirlwind.

There are many reasons why someone who reflects carefully should be able to change their mind and I am happy to have Dr Wollaston as my representative in Parliament.
