South Hams triathlete Fin Saunders raced in the Geopark sprint distance triathlon at Goodrington Sands on Sunday, July 31 with the aim of retaining his title, which he won at last year’s event.

Fin had what was probably his best sea swim to date, showing that his seven swimming sessions a week are paying off.

Fin came out of the water in the front pack, out of the first transition in second place. He had a great bike leg on a hilly route, coming back into transition with a lead of more than two and a half minutes.

The run was another tough one, comprising a costal route that includes a lot of steps to go both up and down – not what you want after a sea swim and tough bike course.

Fin, though, had a great run and crossed the finish line with over a four-minute gap from the second-placed competitor.

This was superb race for Fin and one that sets him up for the last race of his season in Mexico for the World Championships, where he will be representing Great Britain in his age group and hoping for a podium finish.
